At my first defense, no
one stood by me, but everyone deserted me.
May it not be counted against them. But the Lord stood
with me and strengthened me, so that the proclamation might be fully made
through me and all the Gentiles might hear. So I was rescued from the lion’s
mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil work and will bring me safely
into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the
glory forever and ever! Amen. (2 Timothy 4:16-18) (HCSB)
but sanctify Christ as
Lord in your hearts, always being ready
to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that
is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so
that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good
behavior in Christ will be put to shame. For it is better, if God should will
it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is
wrong. (2 Peter 3:15-17) (NASB)
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2) (NIV 1984)
